Taste, season, cold, and how to plant this one.
- Taste
- The old Florida mango. Aromatic, beautiful red and yellow, with some fiber and a classic resinous perfume.
- Ripens
- Early to mid summer. It is a parent of many Florida varieties, Glenn included.
- Zones
- Zones 10 to 11.
- Hardiness
- A proven local tree. Young plants still need frost protection; old Hadens around Naples have seen decades.
- Size
- Large if unpruned. This is a heritage shade-and-fruit tree.
- Tips
- Expect some fiber and a lot of perfume. If you want fiberless, pick Glenn or Carrie instead — but Haden is the flavor a lot of Collier County grew up on.
- Pollination
- Self-fruitful. Older seedlings nearby are often Haden offspring and are not the same fruit.
