Taste, season, cold, and how to plant this one.
- Taste
- Classic cherimoya custard — banana, pineapple, and cream — with red-tinted flesh. Gorgeous when it succeeds.
- Ripens
- Fall, if flowers were pollinated and the summer was not too brutal. Ripen indoors until fragrant.
- Zones
- Best in zones 9b to 10 in a cooler climate. Naples heat and humidity are a challenge.
- Hardiness
- Cherimoya prefers cool highlands. We sell it because people want it, and some yards do fruit it, but an atemoya is the safer custard tree here.
- Size
- Small to medium if it stays healthy. Afternoon shade is sometimes kinder than all-day western sun.
- Tips
- Hand-pollinate. Keep air moving. If you only have room for one annona, take Gefner and come back for cherimoya when you have a second spot.
- Pollination
- Hand-pollination is essential here.
