Taste, season, cold, and how to plant this one.
- Taste
- Tart-sweet cherry-like fruit, famously high in vitamin C. Best fresh, in drinks, or cooked down. Soft fruit does not keep.
- Ripens
- Several crops a year once the bush is established. Flowers follow flushes of growth in the warm months.
- Zones
- Zones 9b to 11.
- Hardiness
- A tropical shrub. Frost burns it. It usually sprouts back if the base was mulched.
- Size
- A shrub, 8 to 12 feet. We have one 15-gallon and several 7-gallon.
- Tips
- Carpenter bees do the pollinating. If fruit fails to set, you may be short on bees, not on fertilizer. Prune lightly after a crop.
- Pollination
- Self-fruitful, with bees doing the work. A second bush is optional.
